Hugo Alfvén's 150th anniversary
This year, 2022, it is 150 years since one of Sweden's most beloved composers and former Director musices Hugo Alfvén was born.
Musicum and the Department of Musicology will celebrate Alfvén's importance for active music life at Uppsala University with an anniversary in October. A symposium, concerts, lectures and a masterclass will be arranged.
Symposium 13-14 october
Musicum and the Department of Musicology is organizing a symposium on Alfvén on 13 and 14 October 2022 at Musicum, Kyrkogårdsgatan 4.

Masterclass 18-20 October
Musicum at Uppsala University is organizing a masterclass on the interpretation of Swedish romances for duos (singers and pianists) with two of our country's most distinguished artists, mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter and pianist Bengt Forsberg.

Hugo Alfvén and Uppsala

Hugo Alfvén (1872-1960) was during the years 1910-1939 active as Director musices at Uppsala University. During this time he was the artistic director of the Royal Academic Orchestra, Orphei Drängar and for a time also of Allmänna Sången. In his home in Linneanum and later at Musicum, he composed several of his most beloved works.
